Appalachian Pharma Bust

This past week a drug bust spanning several counties in the Northeastern, Appalachian region of Kentucky resulted in at least 45 arrests. Nearly all of those arrested were involved in trafficking prescription pills, including Percocet, oxycodone and other pain medication. Only a few arrests were made for marijuana, coke, or methamphetamine. The busts occurred soon after a five-county cooperative sting issued 111 drug-related arrest warrants in the area. According to the paper, prescription drug abuse is a growing problem in the region, where a single percocet has a street value of up to $35.

"The investigation targeted trafficking in prescription drugs; most of the suspects are believed to be traveling to bogus pain clinics in Florida..." LINK (The Daily Independent)
